Do you love Jewelry?

Me too. You might say, I’m a jewelry evangelist. I have a passion for teaching others, so much that I built the school, Metalwerx and then the Artisan’s Asylum Jewelry Studio. I teach workshops all over the US. What will you find here on my blog? Look for cool stories of jewelry and tips, photography, cooking, jewelry fabrication, travel and books. This blog is about what makes me tick and the cool stuff that’s out in the world.

Jewelry 101: DAYTIME JUN/AUG 2016

Description:

In this 6 week long, 3 hour day class, students are introduced to the skills, secrets and techniques of making jewelry. No experience is required except passion and enthusiasm. We begin with the basics of surveying tools used in jewelry making. From saw frames to solder picks, each week we explore a new technique for your tool arsenal.
Beginning with a sawframe, we will pierce out squares of brass and the correct way to use a file. Moving onto the rolling mill, we learn embossing metal using various textures. Employing a "cold connect" employing metal small rivets will be demonstrated. Students will build their own riveting tool. Moving onto soldering, the theory of connecting metal to metal and when to use different solders are demonstrated. Lastly, students will have the skills to solder a ring or make a pendant with a set stone.
